Shiftlet arrives at the Crater farm at sunset, and Mrs. He flipped away the dead match and blew a stream of gray into the evening.
When they were ready to leave, she stood staring in the window of the car, with her fingers clenched around the glass. Shiftlet slept on the hard narrow back seat of the car with his feet out the side window. I can tell you my name is Tom T. Shiftlet then replies "Hitchhiker" and leaves her at the restaurant.
